some kind of magic

1/1/11 10:20 pm - 30 things...

1. In my very short stint at Uni I once lied to a lecturer at the end of the semester and told her that I had slipped my 2000 word essay on the differences between Hinduism and Buddhism under her door on the due date and that I had never received it back. Of course I had done no such thing and was able to submit it 2 months late with no penalties. I got a distinction.

2. I cannot sleep without noise in the room, it helps my brain switch off so I don’t lie there awake all night thinking. It has only been in the last 6 months or so that I also need total darkness. This does not gel well with having the tv on so I wear an eye mask that says “Go Away” on it. It’s cute.

3. I used to be afraid of having showers because I hated the thought of getting water in my eyes. I exclusively took baths until I was 13.

4. Speaking of eyes, I used to work as an ophthalmic technician at an eye specialist. I was on a traineeship so I had to do a lot of shit kicker tasks like photocopying all of the lecture notes for the doctor to give to his Uni students. The one slide I distinctly remember is “ Eyes = $$$”. This really defines how he ran his business.

5. I will always remember the exact moment that I knew that I loved Scott. He was buying a belt from Just Jeans in Launceston, I was leaning against the counter and looked up at him and the whole world stopped. I smiled and stared at him for what felt like forever. Later that day he asked me if I loved him, I happily said yes.

6. I have never been overseas.

7. I did not learn how to swim or ride a bike when I was little. I was too scared to do either of those things.

8. I am an only child.

9. I only started to like drinking beer four years ago. Now I can barely drink anything else.

10. I am the same height that I was when I was 13 – 5’3”.

11. There is nothing more blissful than getting into a bed with fresh sheets.

12. My Mum, Nan and I all have our tea the same way – black with one sugar.

13. I still have all of my diaries from age 10 to 18.

14. I have the baby name book that my parents used before I was born. There are two boys names listed (Christopher and Adam) but no girls names. My Dad was disappointed that I was not a boy.

15. I am a really stingy motherfucker.

16. I have never smoked a cigarette.

17. I love going to trivia nights even though I can barely contribute.

18. I did not have an imaginary friend when I was a child but I did run a pretend classroom out of my bedroom complete with attendance sheet, reading time and assignments.

19. I refused to speak on the telephone until I was 12.

20. I remember begging my Mum to let me watch Home & Away when I started high school. It took me weeks to convince her. I stopped watching when I was 17 but she still loves it. Go figure.

21. I used to call my grade ten Science teacher Dad. Majority of the people I went to school with actually thought he was my father.

22. The most famous people that I have ever met and hung out with are The Fauves.

23. When my best friend and I had a major falling out in grade eight I broke in to the IT room, stole her floppy disk of work and printed out all of the “I love” stuff (Word files, pics etc) for the person she had a crush on. I then handed it all over to the guy and told him to watch out for her as his stalker.

24. My friends and I used to find insulting lines in songs, pause the music at the right spot and call other students that we hated. We would press play as soon as they answered and laugh for hours at how clever and funny we were.

25. My cat used to have sex with my stuffed toys. True story.

26. I can only remember to do things by writing them down.

27. I do not own a single dress.

28. I strongly believe that everyone should celebrate their birthday for a whole week.

29. I have not listened to the radio in 3 years. I have no idea what music is currently popular.

30. Once I find something that I really want I will obsess about it until it’s mine.

I had this necklace made and it is so much cuter than I had anticipated.

They also sent me these earrings for free but as I don't have my ears pierced they are up for grabs.

Mandi, Julie...you ladies interested in having them? They are a little "oh my god" I know! But if you want them or even have a friend who might get a kick out of them let me know and I will post them off to you.

It has arrived.

It's beautiful.

Like, crazy off the charts beautiful.

Scott has forbidden me from taking it out of the box and tonight he will be taking it off me and hiding it away until September 14th.

It almost makes me want to cry.

This is going to be the longest two weeks of my life!

My shoes finally arrived today from Germany.

I am so in love.

*sigh*

I kind of went crazy today on Yes To Carrots products.

Totally worth it though, they are really great. The hand & elbow cream is amazing!

I am so desperate to buy the lip butters but no one seems to be carrying them here in Australia yet. I've emailed them to find out where I can get my hands on them ASAP!

I also got the Bonacure Silver Shampoo because I am so sick of my hair throwing gold into my blonde foils. It's the most intense shade of purple so I am a little scared about using it but it's worth a shot.

Yeah. I kinda spent a lot of money today. But it was fun.

My birthday is rapidly approaching, and that means that I need to inform Scott of what I would like for my present.

That part is easy. A GHD. Convincing him that I all I really wanted was a hair straightener that has a RRP of $319 was easier than I thought (thank you ry.com.au for selling them at $279 and thanks to the Vogue forums for their 5% discount code!). But now I have hit a snag. Which limited edition do I want? Pure or Dark?

I am so tempted to get the white one, the packaging is just way more amazing and it just looks awesome. But I just don't know! I really like the black as well.

Here is a picture of the white one in "real life".

So pretty.

So many months ago I said "hey, I need some new fragrances to try out" and I got a list of suggestions but I never reported back on what I have actually purchased. Since then I have probably spent about $300 on perfume (...and $400 on shoes but that's a whole other story).

Here's what I have gotten my hands on.

Wish by Chopard - Okay for starters the bottle is amazing. I scored a 75ml bottle for $45 which made me a very happy girl. I remember grabbing a tester somewhere a couple of months back and spraying it on a card and smelling it non-stop. It smells a little different on my skin...more heavy but I still really dig it.

Pacific Paradise by Escada - Oh wow, this is so sickly sweet, the first 15 minutes are like intense pineapple. It does settle but still, really sweet. Shame it doesn't have a lot of staying power, probably only lasted half a day. Definitely a summer-only fragrance, for me anyway.

Lolita Lempicka - Considering that both Mandi and Liss recommended this I simply had to get it. The bottle is the most adorable and wonderful thing I think I have ever seen. My first couple of days of wearing it I really wasn't sure how I felt about it but it totally grew on me. I can still smell it on my wrist when I go to bed so it has the most amazing staying power and it smells even better as the day goes on. I kinda love it.

Dalimania by Salvador Dali - This is a very warm and heavy fragrance, definitely great for winter. I don't even know how to describe it, I do like it but it can be somewhat overpowering. Probably not a great one to force upon your office.

Eau De Dali by Salvador Dali - This smells very fresh and light, the lady who served me said "it's delicate, like you"...which was a total load of bull but I still purchased it anyway. I really like this one for everyday wear, it just works. I can't imagine this smelling bad on anyone.

Little Kiss Salvador Dali - This is the new 2008 Dali offering and in my opinion it's awesome. Very girly and floral, it kind of has an uplifting feel about it. The bottle is hell cute as well. As soon as I caught a whiff of it in the store I bought it, shame the big bottles are $99, my tiny bottle will run out very quickly.

Sweet Paradise by Morgan - Okay, thank god I only purchased the 8ml bottle of this. Smells amazing on other people...smells like ash on my skin. It's quite sad, I really wanted to love this. Just not meant to be.

Love Love De Toi by Morgan - Kind of smells a little bit like candy and flowers, the dry down isn't amazing on me but the first hour is at least pleasant. I usually wear this on my Sunday morning journeys to the supermarket.

My Morgan by Morgan - You really think I would have learnt my lesson by now but I simply had to get myself the 8ml bottle of the 2008 perfume by Morgan. It's a floral, kinda tropical...smells like a laid back version of Pacific Paradise. I am unsure on my feelings about this one, I haven't really worn it enough to judge. But basically I don't think my skin agrees with whatever Morgan are using.

The Beat by Burberry - I got hooked up with a free sample of this and I adore it, I really wish it wasn't so expensive because I would definitely be buying it.

Mediterranean Breeze by Elizabeth Arden - Just released down here in Australia, I walked out of the store with a free sample only a few hours ago. When I first sprayed it on I really did not like it, but after about 30 minutes it totally changed and toned down and smells quite good! I can only describe it as being similar to Classique, which isn't a bad thing at all. I may look at buying a full bottle in the future.

Funny! by Moschino - Now this was love at first smell. It instantly said to me "hello signature fragrance!". Love, love, love it. Might be a little overwhelming for some, it has a quite intense orange sherbet smell for the first hour but it does settle into this amazing sugary citrus smell. Lasts all day and for me it just screams happiness and fun, it's definitely my favourite.

I still have many more that I am dying to try out but I am pretty happy with what I have picked up so far. It breaks my heart a little bit that none of the Morgan fragrances really gel with my chemicals but I'm sure I can find new homes for them amongst my friends.

This photo excites me beyond belief.

My house is now actually looking more like a house.

I cannot get over how high our hallway ceiling is going to be. It's just so high, haha.

Tomorrow I am going to put down deposits on our windows and bricks. If we are lucky we shall be living in it come November.
